Letters from l836 discuss Bates's decision to break with Quaker doctrine and be baptised. 1812 letter from brother Benjamin requests Elisha and family visit; 1850 letter appoints Bates the Ohio delegate to the World's Peace Conference in Germany. Some items are photocopies.
